SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12 includes support for HAProxy to complement the Linux virtual server load balancer.

Cluster-Aware File System and Volume Management
OCFS2
A shared-disk, POSIX-compliant, generic cluster file system that enables the clustering of a wide range of applications for high availability. We have improved the performance of OCFS2 in SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12.

Clustered Logical Volume Manager 2 (cLVM2)
Offers a more convenient, single, cluster-wide view of storage.

GFS2
GFS2 is a shared disk file system for Linux computer clusters. It allows all nodes to have direct concurrent access to the same shared block storage. GFS2 read and write support is included in SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12.

Continuous Data Replication
Distributed Replicated Block Device (DRBD)
A leading open source networked disk management tool, DRBD enables you to build single partitions from multiple disks that mirror each other and make data highly available.

Node recovery with Relax and Recover
Relax and Recover (formerly ReaR) enables a quick return to full operational status after a node failure. It allows the administrator to take a full snapshot of the system and restore this snapshot on recovery hardware after a disaster. This feature is included on the x86 and x86-64 architectures.

Set-Up and Installation
Templates and wizards
Administrators who lack in-depth knowledge of Linux clustering can use the simple wizards and templates included in SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension to quickly complete basic set-up tasks.

Cluster Bootstrap
The Cluster Bootstrap offers a menu driven set-up process for rapidly deploying a base cluster.

Cluster Join
Cluster Join enables effortless cluster set-up and expansion of existing clusters. Once you build a node or cluster, you can add new nodes without the need to manually replicate configurations.

Management and Administration Tools
Unified command line interface
The unified command line interface makes it possible for experienced IT managers to quickly and easily install, configure and manage their clustered Linux servers.

Access control lists
Access control lists align cluster management with your processes and policies. By applying role-based controls, you can ensure only IT staff with the proper authority can access cluster management tools. Restricting access not only helps maintain security, it also improves cluster reliability by limiting mistakes.

Cluster-wide shell
The cluster-wide shell improves the effectiveness of managing cluster nodes by enabling the execution of commands across all nodes using the PSSH command.

History explorer
This web-based support tool allows interactive access to cluster logs. It displays and analyzes actions taken by SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension. The history explorer delivers a more intuitive experience for users who are unfamiliar with the command line.

Graphical user interface
The GUI provides less experienced operators a simple, user-friendly tool for monitoring and administering their clustered environment.

Web GUI
The web console supports full cluster administration, such as adding resources, constraints and dependencies. You can also use it to manage groups of resources, which improves scalability on large clusters. Additionally, you can access control lists, the cluster test drive and a new graphical history explorer through the web console.

Cluster test drive
This feature allows users to simulate a failover situation before an actual disaster happens, making sure of the configuration and resource allocation prior to production.

Cluster configuration sync
Keeps configuration consistent across nodes using csync2.

Resource Agents
Open source applications
SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension includes many resource agents for open source applications, such as Apache, IPv4, IPv6, DRBD, KVM, Xen and Postgres.

Third party applications
The solution ships with resource agents for popular third party applications, such as IBM WebSphere, IBM DB2, VMware and SAP.

Clustered Samba (CTDB)
Integrated with OCFS2, CTDB can be made highly available and scalable using multiple nodes and can transparently failover through cluster-wide locking. CTDB resources are automatically added and synched to Active Directory.

Virtualization Aware
KVM and Xen support
The cluster resource manager in SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension is able to recognize, monitor and manage services running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with KVM or Xen.

Third-party hypervisor support
Through the use of SBD, you can make services running on third-party hypervisors, such as VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V, highly available and manage them as if they were running on a physical server.

A new way of monitoring and improved usability
Service Pack 4 upgrades key components in the high availability (HA) clustering stack—including pacemaker, booth and ReaR—to the same versions in SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12. With these upgrades, SP4 brings the latest features and functions to customers, allowing them to fully exploit the stack to enhance service availability for mission-critical workloads. In the meantime, SP4 improves usability in the easy-to-use High Availability Working Konsole (HAWK).

Pacemaker (open source high availability resource manager)
SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 Service Pack 4 includes a new feature called pacemaker_remote. It allows nodes not running the cluster stack (pacemaker+corosync) to integrate into the cluster and have the cluster manage their resources just as if they were a real cluster node. This feature makes it ideal for large scale deployment by supporting worker nodes as a scale-out clustering option. With this feature, you can deploy an HA cluster with a total of more than 32 nodes.

HAWK (High Availability Working Konsole)
SP4 improves the usability of HAWK by introducing new templates and wizards to make setup extremely easy even to people who are new to high availability. Experienced users can also benefit from the templates for better scaling of system deployments. For example, Oracle- and DB2-related templates and wizards make SP4 easier to use to boost your database availability.

ReaR (node recovery)
SP4 contains a more recent upstream version of ReaR. New features, such as VLAN support and EMC Networker support, are now included in the new version of ReaR. The former version is still available with SP4, so existing configurations can be kept unchanged while customers can still benefit from the latest features in the new version.
